Memory care is about life!

Age related memory loss is a challenge for many. The Pacific View community wants to extend support to its south coast neighbors, beginning with the Sprague Theater event, according to Executive Director Debbie Wilson.

Memory care promotes a lifestyle that is active and engaging, explained Wilson. Pacific View is participating with the nonprofit organization Music & Memory to bring portable, personal music systems to residents. The organization was founded by social worker Dan Cohen, who’s work is featured in “Alive Inside.”

Participation with Music & Memory includes staff preparation, such as tips on talking about music and building personal MP3 playlists. Pacific View staff look forward to sharing their continued education about memory care.

“Not everybody is ready to move into the (memory care) community, but they need that support,” said Memory Care Program Administrator Leslie Davis.

At Pacific View, the Music & Memory program is an extension of the activities staff and residents already share together. Community residents sing and play music several times a week. Memories, movement, and relaxation can all be stimulated by a favorite song, observes Billie Green, Memory Care Activities Director.

Fellow Activities Director Lorinda Harless says she looks forward to the Music & Memory program for one-on-one interaction, especially to comfort those struggling with the confusion and fear that can result from memory loss.

“Sometimes they need a little more than silent hand holding,” said Harless.

Sue Robb, right, shares her memories of studying music as a child with Pacific View Activities Director Lorinda Harless.

Celebrating Fathers

Pacific View loves to celebrate our residents.  This is especially true when they have lived a full life of being caring, nurturing, teaching figures to their family and friends. We celebrated our father figures with a beautiful Father’s Day lunch which featured a menu of surf and turf and live music by the local musicians, Simple Harmonies. Our residents enjoyed a day full of fun activities while wearing Father’s Day baseball hats they decorated in honor of their father, being a father or a father figure.
